Thousands and thousands of Bulgarians took to the streets to protest against the high oil prices. The protesters demand the government to take immediate measures to reduce oil prices to 1 euro per liter.

Some of the concrete proposals suggest VAT reduction for oil from 20 to 12 per cent and setting a limit to the surplus charge of oil companies operating in the country.

Social Minister Totyu Mladenov announced the day before that he would begin talks with syndicates and employers to raise salaries in order to compensate for the higher prices of oil and foods.

Transport Minister Alexander Tsvetkova said the government was trying to figure out whether the state energy commission could control the oil prices.
