Croatia: Unemployment down in April

The month of April has seen a 6.4 per cent drop in unemployment compared to the previous month, the latest Croatian Employment Services (HZZ) data shows.

The month of April has seen a 6.4 per cent drop in unemployment compared to the previous month, the latest Croatian Employment Services (HZZ) data shows.

There were 308,869 registered unemployed in April, 21,261 fewer than the month before. Compared to April of 2010, that is an increase of 0.1 per cent.

The growth of unemployment on an annual basis has been tapering off with each month this year, the daily 24 Sata writes. In January, the year on year difference was eight per cent, 5.9 in February, 3.6 in March and 0.1 in April.

HZZ expects the unemployment growth to continue to slow down in the upcoming months, the daily writes.

The biggest growth of employment was registered in accommodations and food and beverages services, public administration and defence, agriculture, forestry and fishing.

Split-Dalmatia, Osijek-Baranja, Istria, Zagreb City and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County led the list, when it came to hirings.
