Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik has stated that RS authorities have come into contact with Brussels and agreed to postpone referendum as a sign of good will so as to enable opening of a dialogue on the questions that RS has tabled.

Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik has stated that RS authorities have come into contact with Brussels and agreed to postpone referendum as a sign of good will so as to enable opening of a dialogue on the questions that RS has tabled.

“We are in the process of intensive talks with certain European structures on possible solutions,” Dodik said, adding that RS was carefully preparing for the talks so that Europe could not find fault with anything.

In an interview for the Thursday edition of the Belgrade-based daily Blic, Dodik said that the goal of RS is to amend the law, which is the focus of the announced referendum.

“If the talks with Europe result in a strong statement by an important EU representative saying that our requests are justified and correct then the referendum will lose its point since its goal is to look for a solution. Regardless of their activities, Europe and the U.S. will have to provide answers to these questions since the reality in Bosnia-Herzegovina is unmatchable with the legal systems in Europe and America,” Dodik said.

When asked about the next move if the talks with the EU do not yield results, Dodik answered that in that case referendum is certain.

If High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) Valentin Inzko revokes the decision on referendum, that will make RS question its behavior, Dodik said.

“In that case each next move of the BiH will be conditioned by our request for referendum, and there are also other issues that we will raise,” Dodik sad, adding that if Inzko decides to dismiss him, he will ask for opinion of people who elected him.
