If the referendum were to take place today, 57 per cent of Croatians would be in support of EU accession. Thirty-seven would be against it, while six per cent would remain undecided.
Croatians will vote "yes" for their country’s European Union membership although their support will not be overwhelming, latest Ipsos Plus agency survey results show.
If the referendum were to take place today, 57 per cent of Croatians would be in support of EU accession. Thirty-seven would be against it, while six per cent would remain undecided.
The numbers in support are slightly lower than a month or so ago when Minister of Foreign Affairs Gordan Jandrokovic said two thirds of Croatians are EU membership fans.
The head of the Delegation of the European Commission to the Republic of Croatia, Paul Vandoren, is still optimistic about the latest results considering that more people would come out for EU membership referendum than parliamentary elections. Seventy per cent of eligible voters said they would place ballots about the question of joining the EU.
The research also showed that Croatians expect significant improvements in the areas of rule of law, environmental protection and education once they are a Union member. They are worried, however, about a further drop in the standard of living brought on by expected price increases.
Vandoren also said that Croatia should not fear the ratification process that some say could be marked by the EU's expansion fatigue, daily Jutarnji List writes.
