On Sunday Bulgaria will hold its sixth local elections after 1989, the fall of communism.  Bulgarian voters will elect mayors, municipal councilors and mayors of villages for the period between 2011 and 2015.

There are a few municipalities where the first round will be the only one. FOCUS News Agency presents some favorites and forecasts for the first round on October 23:

District administrative centers:

Blagoevgrad

A runoff between Atanas Kambitov (ruling party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria – CEDB) and Emil Kostadinov (Bulgarian Socialist Party – BSP)

Burgas

Incumbent mayor Dimitar Nikolov (CEDB) will most probably win in the first round. In case of a runoff he will face Valeri Simeonov.

Varna

A runoff between current mayor Kiril Yordanov (CEDB) and Veselin Mareshki

Veliko Tarnovo

A runoff between Daniel Panov (CEDB) and Nikolay Ilchev (BSP)

Vidin

A runoff between Vladimir Toshev (CEDB), Gergo Gergov (BSP) and Pavel Paunov (Blue Coalition)

Vratsa

A runoff between Petya Avramova (CEDB) and Nikolay Ivanov (BSP)

Gabrovo

A runoff between Tanya Hristova (CEDB) and Veselin Peshev (BSP)

Dobrich

Current Mayor of the town Detelina Nikolova (CEDB) would probably win in the first round on Sunday

Kardzhali

Intrigue in the elections is reduced to what result would gain the current Mayor Hasan Azis

Kyustendil

Current Mayor Petar Paunov (Coalition Kyustendil) will face his opponent in a runoff from among Nikolay Tatarliev (CEDB) and Maya Shishkova (BSP).

Lovech

Current Mayor Mincho Kazandzhiev (BSP) is to win a new term, as it is very likely to happen yet at the first round

Montana

A runoff between current Mayor Zlatko Zhivkov and Lyudmil Sandov (CEDB) former Mayor of Montana

Pazardzhik

The question here is whether current Mayor Todor Popov will win at the first round

Pernik

Elections in Pernik is expected to be won by the current Mayor Rositsa Yanakieva at the first round, but is a runoff Yanakieva will face with Irena Sokolova (CEDB)

Pleven

In a runoff current Mayor Naiden Zelenogorski may face with Dr. Dimitar Stoykov (CEDB) or Lyubomir Petkov (BSP)

Plovdiv

Many controversial researches expect a runoff between current Mayor Slavcho Atanasov (VMRO-NIE) and current regional governor Ivan Totev (CEDB)

Rzgrad

Three are too much for a runoff where will face Hasan Ademov (MRF), Dencho Boyadzhiev (BSP) and Valentin Vasilev (CEDB)

Ruse

A runoff between candidate of CEDB Plamen Stoilov and one the following candidates Iskren Veselinov (VMRO-NIE), Orlin Lazarov (BSP) and Rumen Yanuarov (NMSP)

Sliven

A runoff between current Mayor Yordan Lechkov and Gen. Kolyo Milev (BSP)

Silistra

A runoff between BSP candidate Tihomir Borechev and Dr. Yuliyan Naidenov (CEDB)

Smolyan

If current Mayor Dora Yankova fails the first round she will face with CEDB candidate Nikolay Melemov in a runoff.

Sofia

Current Mayor Yordanaka Fandakova is an absolute favorite, but if a runoff she will face Georgi Kadiev (BSP)

Stara Zagora

Most likely a runoff between MP from CEDB Zhivko Todorov and Prof. Assoc. Boycho Bivolarski (BSP)

Haskovo

Situation in Haskovo is like the situation in Targovishte. Current Mayor Georgi Ivanov may win the first round

Shumen

A runoff between Current Mayor Krasimir Kostov (BSP) and regional governor Dimitar Alexandrov (CEDB)

Yambol

A runoff between current Mayor Georgi Slavov (CEDB) and BSP candidate Marieta Sivkova
