1 million pieces of smuggled cigarettes were seized by customs officers at the Kulata checkpoint, the press office of the National Customs Agency announced.

The cigarettes were put in a special hidden compartment in a truck with Bulgarian registration, travelling from Greece to Bulgaria.

The trailer of the truck was loaded with reinforcing bars (12-meter bars), placed over knurled floor. Under the floor the customs officers on duty found a hidden compartment, where there were put 980,000 pieces of smuggled cigarettes.
A pre-court proceeding was initiated.

Other 12,800 pieces of cigarettes were found after a check on a car. The illegal tobacco products were hidden in car’s tire.

In another routine check on a car crossing the border, customs officers found 5,000 pieces of cigarettes hidden in one of car’s doors.
