Directorate for European Integration (DEI) of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the project EU Awareness announced today in Sarajevo, on the occasion of Europe Day, 9 May, the best journalists in BiH in the field of European integration for 2012.

Winners are Danka Savic (Slobodna Bosna) for the print media, Mirsad Bajtarević (BH Radio 1) for the electronic media and Fedzad Forto (Federal News Agency - FENA) for the web and agency reporting.

The ceremony was also attended by Head of Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia Peter Sorensen, who in his address said that it is often mistakenly understood that the process of European integration concerns only the politicians and bureaucrats, but the "main players" in this process are the media, who need to convey appropriate information to the public.

He said that is why we need analytical and independent media, who understand what it is all about and who will be able to explain it to ordinary people.

“We fully support a free, independent media, free from every kind of pressure,” said Sorensen.

Apart from gifts, award-winning journalists will get a trip to Brussels where they will have the opportunity to visit the EU institutions.
