Montenegro's Prime Minister Igor Luksic rejected on Tuesday the demand for his resignation by the organizers of a protest in Podgorica, stating that his government was completely dedicated to EU integration and economic recovery.

The third large protest rally over the difficult social and economic situation in the country was held in Podgorica on Saturday, and the protesters gave Luksic a 10-day deadline to resign, explaining that the government was not protecting the interest of the people, but of tycoons and organized crime.

The organizers of the protest said they would hold a new rally on May 15 if Luksic did not resign within 10 days.
The protest was organized by the Union of Free Trade Unions, Network for the Promotion of the Non-Governmental Sector and Student Union.

Luksic noted that those seeking his resignation had not offered a clear plan on what to do afterwards. "They say the government should go. Alright, but what happens after that. Have they offered a new programme? No. Have they given support to someone in the opposition? No. Simply put, there is no alternative on offer," Luksic told Radio Montenegro.
