Romania exported weapons worth some EUR 131 million in 2011, an increase of 6 percent on the year before, and a growth of 30 percent on 2009. Countries like the US, Afghanistan and the UK spent twice as much on weapons from Romania than in previous years.

At the same time, Germany spent four times less on Romanian weapons, while the US was Romania’s best client.
In the EU, the Netherlands spent most on Romanian weapons, despite the tensions between the two countries on Schengen accession. The US spent EUR 33.8 million on weapons from Romania, Morocco, some EUR 22.5 million, Afghanistan, EUR 19.2 million, the Netherlands, EUR 14.6 million, Israel, some EUR 11 million and Chile, EUR 4.5 million.
