President of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia Sonja Biserko stated today for FENA that the declaration on Srebrenica adopted yesterday by Serbian assembly due to discussion and manner in which it this discussion was held, at the moment is the maximum Serbian authorities have to offer.
Biserko stated that Serbian assembly has shown a shameful picture and a bleak state of Serbian society.
"All that was happening in the assembly is far more important for Serbia itself because it shows the depth of identification with the politics of Slobodan Milosevic and inability to accept responsibility for that politics and to distance from it", said Biserko.
She expressed hope that the international community after seeing the state of spirit of Serbian society will start some other mechanisms and "impose a certain framework of values which could help Serbia to move away from autism, xenophobia and self-pity".
