Cvetkovic: Anti-corruption fight is precondition on EU path

Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic stated Friday that the continuation, broadening and intensifying of fight against all forms of crime and corruption is one of the most important priorities of the Serbian government.

Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic stated Friday that the continuation, broadening and intensifying of fight against all forms of crime and corruption is one of the most important priorities of the Serbian government.

At a conference on fighting corruption by way of integrity plans in the Palace of Serbia, Cvetkovic pointed out that the fight against corruption is one of the crucial preconditions that Serbia has to fulfill on its EU path.

He announced that the government will back all activities of the Anti-Corruption Agency, and recalled that in order to improve efficiency of fight against crime and corruption, a number of bills have been adopted and a justice system reform has been carried out in the previous period.

Cvetkovic underlined that the Serbian government is a reliable partner of the Anti-Corruption Agency, which has recently been established and is now faced with comprehensive and responsible work, adding that the government will offer its full support to the realization of all activities related to the fight against corruption.

He said that the implementation of the Law on the Anti-Corruption Agency, launched in January 2010, is a confirmation of the government's stand that the rule of law is impossible without independent institutions.

Cvetkovic underscored that the government is determined to back all legal acts that are related to the anti-corruption fight, adding that the adopted regulations will improve the operation of the state bodies and enable a more efficient fight against crime and corruption.

The conference in the Palace of Serbia is also attended by the majority of ministers and heads of the Anti-Corruption Agency.
