The European Commission Enlargement Directorate and the Serbian Ministry of Culture are organising a “Culture Road – Fortresses on the Danube” exhibition of photography which will open on 5 July at the European Commission building in Brussels.
The Ministry of Culture says in a statement that EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Füle, Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic and Minister of Culture Nebojsa Bradic will open the exhibition.
The exhibition will feature seven Serbian medieval fortresses on the Danube as testimonies of turbulent historic events on the river and its influence on the shaping of a unique conglomerate of today’s heritage.
The “Culture Road – Fortresses on the Danube” development project was initiated this June in seven towns and municipalities on the Danube build around these fortresses, ie Bac, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Smederevo, Veliko Gradiste, Golubac and Kladovo.
This is a continuation of a pilot project “Fortresses on the Danube”, implemented in 2009 and 2010 as part of UNESCO’s regional programme for cultural heritage of south-eastern Europe, the statement adds.
