The European Parliament (EP) Committee on Foreign Affairs will discuss the new resolution on Serbia. After a two-month procedure of submitting amendments and supplements to the resolution so that it would include all the most important events, the resolution will be voted on at the next EP session in January 2011.

The European Parliament (EP) Committee on Foreign Affairs will discuss the new resolution on Serbia. After a two-month procedure of submitting amendments and supplements to the resolution so that it would include all the most important events, the resolution will be voted on at the next EP session in January 2011.

The author of the resolution is EP Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin, who recently stated that the resolution's aim is to welcome all the reforms introduced so far that are leading Serbia towards the EU, encourage it to take further steps and point to the open challenges on its EU pathway.

The aim of the resolution is to welcome all reforms leading Serbia towards the EU and encourage further steps that it needs to take, Kacin stated.

Emphasizing certain areas in particular, such as the efforts to implement a full rule of law in the country or the fight against corruption and organized crime, the EP wants to point to Serbia's open challenges on its EU pathway, he added.

Kacin said that the resolution represents a strong message and encouragement whereby the EP will provide an additional political legitimacy to Belgrade's efforts in facing these challenges.
