EU Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule believes that it strictly depends on Serbia when it will arrive to EU and that combat against corruption and organised crime should continue with doubled intensity.

The key is in determined continuation of reforms, and published report on progress will serve Serbian government as a roadmap for focusing their activities and build consensus on numerous crucial issues in order to continue to improve their European chances , Fule pointed out in his text in today’s issue of Belgrade daily “Blic.”

According to him, the main priority has got to remain cooperation with International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and finding the remaining two fugitives Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic.

Fule pointed out that it is not just an international obligation, but also a fundamental step toward the reconciliation within the country, as well as in the region, adding that he has no doubt in Serbia’s dedication to that goal. There is one last effort left, and that is to bring these two defendants to justice.

Other priorities include the rule of law and judiciary system reform, battle against corruption and organised crime, and regulatory bodies’ independence, Fule added.

EU Commissioner went on, saying that enough has already been done and that is the way to continue, battle against organised crime and corruption should double in intensity. Unbiased and efficient judiciary is a condition for democracy functioning. That is a vital factor which should convince citizens of Serbia in judiciary system reliability in their country.

He also said he was sure that Serbia wants to solve problems of election legislative and financing of political parties, and that the proprietary rights should be explained and thus remove a great obstacle for investors.

Enlargements in 2004 and 2007 greatly contributed to European continent uniting, in political as well as in economic sense, Fule said, concluding that that the project is not finished until Serbia and the rest of western Balkan join the EU.
