After presenting the best movie award in the competition program 'Europe out of Europe' to the Macedonian director Milco Mancevski's film “Mothers” and premiere of the Serbian film “Enemy” directed by Dejan Zecevic, the 39th Belgrade International Film Festival Fest was officially closed at the Centre Sava on Sunday evening.
The head of the international jury Goran Paskaljevic underlined that the seven movies competing for this year's award were of high quality and expressed his satisfaction over the fact that the award went to the prominent Macedonian director Mancevski.
Numerous cinema-goers greeted Mancevski, who directed other wonderful movies such as “Before the Rain”, “Dust” and “Shadows”, with enthusiastic applause.
I would like to thank to the crew, actors and distributor Manaki Film. Thanks Fest, Mancevski said on receiving the Eritrocit (Erythrocyte) award for his new movie “Mothers”, which is traditionally given by the Belgrade daily Politika.
Director of Fest Head Office Milos Paramentic addressed the audience at the Centre Sava, underlining that 2011 film festival which started February 25th, and featured 70 movies, was visited by 110,000 cinema-lovers.
Fest Art Director Borislav Andjelic said that the leading idea of 39th Fest was to stir new optimism and maintain the values which were set by Fest founder Milutin Colic forty years ago.
Fest Selector Ivan Karl added that a successful film festival needs movies, tradition and audience, and that Fest has all of that, and that ahead of his great jubilee (40th festival) it can take great pride in a total of 4,000 movies, which were seen by four million cinema-lovers.
