Prosecutors of the EU mission in Kosovo have not requested revocation of immunity for former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) Fatmir Ljimaj for the time being, EULEX Spokesperson Irina Gudeljevic told Tanjug.

Prosecutors of the EU mission in Kosovo have not requested revocation of immunity for former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) Fatmir Ljimaj for the time being, EULEX Spokesperson Irina Gudeljevic told Tanjug.

The immunity issue is currently being revised, Gudeljevic said.

On Thursday, EULEX confirmed the existence of a warrant for Ljimaj's arrest and said that the warrant refers to the so-called Klecka case and serious war crimes charges. EULEX officials also said that competent bodies are currently reviewing the issue of parliamentary immunity Ljimaj is entitled to.

The release also notes that EULEX prosecutors are in close contact with Ljimaj so that they could discuss his status.

Ljimaj surrendered to the EULEX police at his house in the village of Caglavica near Pristina late on Wednesday and was released after two-hour long interrogation. During a news conference on Thursday, he stated that he is willing to renounce his parliamentary immunity in order to make it easier for the judiciary officials to carry out their job.

The former KLA commander said that EU mission's officials were present during his interrogation at the EULEX office in Kosovo Polje on Wednesday, but there was no judge. Ljimaj also said added that he received no indictment.

On Thursday, EULEX stated of nine individuals who were arrested within the investigation into war crimes committed during armed conflicts in Kosovo, five have been remanded in 30-day detention, another two were sentenced to house prison and one arrestee was released with the obligation to report to the local police station three times a week, while the ninth suspect was arrested in Switzerland.

The said arrest warrants were issued by a pre-trial judge of the Pristina District Court. The arrested individuals are charged with murder, torture and violation of physical integrity and health of Albanian and Serb civilians from Kosovo and other war prisoners in the village of Klecka in 1999.
