Police arrest group of illegal amphetamine makers

The service for combating organized crime arrested Wednesday night people suspected of manufacturing and selling amphetamine drugs, including Varan Chemicals director Goran Lazovic, the Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

Slobodan Gmizic, Marko Zupanjac, Jovan Drca, Jovica Drobnjak and Isamedini Azizi were also arrested.

Members of a criminal group led by Milan Zarubica, who has a previous conviction to 11 years in prison for the same crime, are suspected of producing amphetamines intended for sale in Serbia and neighboring countries at the facilities of Varan Chemicals in Ugrinovci near Belgrade.

Ačording to the prosecutor's office, Jovica Kanazir and Dragan Karapesev, who are currently serving prison sentences, also belonged to the same organized criminal group.

Police are still investigating the facility in Ugrinovci and searćing the homes of the suspects.

The service for combating organized crime will interrogate all suspects during the day, after whić they will go before an investigative judge at the special ćamber of the Belgrade District Court.

In this manner, the Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with the Interior Ministry's service for combating organized crime and the Justice Ministry's Administration for the Execution of Penitentiary Sanctions, is wrapping up the pre-trial proceedings against the organized criminal group, reads the statement.
