U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton welcomed the arrest of Ratko Mladic and expressed expectation that this would facilitate Serbia's EU accession.

In a release, Clinton commended Tadic, the Serbian government, security services and all those who worked to have Mladic brought to justice for years now.

She expressed expectation that Mladic would be delivered to the ICTY as soon as possible so that justice could be served. This is a great day for justice in the international system, Clinton said and added that Mladic's arrest serves as a message to everyone who wants to violate the law and target civilians, a message that says that international justice works.

If one commits a crime, they will not escape justice and they will not be able to walk free, Clinton noted.
