The Serbian Association of Employers (UPS) Thursday urged the government and farmers who have been blocking major regional roads in Vojvodina since Monday to come to a compromise soon, as private companies are losing hundreds of millions of dinars every day due to the block.

The UPS has said it will sue the Serbian government for violating their fundamental constitutional right to work if agreement is not reached soon.

The Association said that everything has been brought to a halt - bakeries cannot deliver bread, dairies cannot deliver milk, publishers cannot deliver newspapers, stores are slowly becoming empty and producers are running out of raw materials.

The farmers are protesting over the changes in government subsidies for the agricultural sector.
