Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said in Krusevac on June 26 that a bout of severe weather that tore through several regions in Serbia over the past few days had caused nearly EUR40 million in damages.

After touring the most heavily afflicted region around Krusevac, Dacic said that the storm had ravaged crops and almost completely destroyed them in some areas.

The minister stressed that the recent natural disasters that had struck Serbia over the past few months necessitated creating a strong natural disaster reaction system and relief teams.

Dacic added that both the state and local communities needed to encourage farmers to pay more attention to insurance as very few of them had insurance.
