Serbian President Boris Tadic stated on Thursday that the decision of the Pristina administration to impose embargo on import of Serbian goods represents a hostile move and a provocation, but he added that Belgrade would not respond to this move by a countermeasure.

Serbian President Boris Tadic stated on Thursday that the decision of the Pristina administration to impose embargo on import of Serbian goods represents a hostile move and a provocation, but he added that Belgrade would not respond to this move by a countermeasure.

The decision is amoral, absurd and contrary to basic European values, Tadic told reporters.

He expressed hope that the Pristina administration would reconsider the ultimate consequences which the decision could entail.

However, Tadic also noted that Pristina could not have adopted such a unilateral move without some sort of international support.

He said that he conferred with EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and received assurances that EU institutions would not back Pristina's decision.

We are carefully watching to see how the EU and the U.S. would respond, Tadic said and added that had Serbia done something like this, the international community would have immediately started pointing fingers.

Serbia will certainly not have its back at Pristina because it is important to maintain a stable situation in the region and stable reactions are a prerequisite for this, even in cases such as this move, Tadic said.

When asked whether this would affect the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, the Serbian president replied that it would certainly affect the dialogue, but he expressed hope that it would not completely disrupt the process of negotiations.
