President of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce Safet Grdzaliu said the Kosovo government's decision to impose an embargo on goods from Serbia was forced by the delay in the sixth round of Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, which had free trade on the agenda.

President of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce Safet Grdzaliu said the Kosovo government's decision to impose an embargo on goods from Serbia was forced by the delay in the sixth round of Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, which had free trade on the agenda.

The Kosovo government's decision should be seen as a forced move. Serbia is the biggest loser in this case, Grdzaliu told Tanjug.

He said the decision came into effect Wednesday evening and customs officials have been ordered not to allow through trucks coming from Serbia to Kosovo.

The Kosovo Chamber of Commerce president said EUR 243 million worth of Serbian goods was legally imported into Kosovo every year, while a similar amount came in through illegal channels.

If we calculate from 1999 until today, Serbia has earned EUR 7 billion selling its goods in Kosovo, Grdzaliu said.

He believes this number that should have made the Belgrade government offer a compromise in the dialogue with Pristina, pointing out the Kosovo government might show flexibility, if good will was shown in the next part of the dialogue on free trade.
