Firefight in northern Kosovo, one police officer injured

Eyewitnesses say that the incident happened when two police vehicles entered the village and opened fire at four cars owned by local Serbs, which were parked on the road.

A firefight occurred in the village of Varage, near the northern Kosovo town of Zubin Potok, in which one police officer was injured, according to a Tanjug reporter who was at the scene.

Eyewitnesses say that the incident happened when two police vehicles entered the village and opened fire at four cars owned by local Serbs, which were parked on the road.

The sircumstances of the shooting are not known. Witnesses and local residents do not wish to disclose any details and are not allowing pictures to be taken.

After the incident, the police drove off towards southern Kosovska Mitrovica and the village of Kosutovo, which is mostly populated by ethnic Albanians.

There is blood at the site of the incident, and the Serbs' cars are ridden with bullet holes.

The villagers have refused to give any statements to reporters.
