Repairing damage from Kraljevo earthquake on schedule

Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Milan Markovic today confirmed during a visit to Kraljevo that the reconstruction of houses damaged in last year's earthquake will be completed by 1 October.

Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Milan Markovic today confirmed during a visit to Kraljevo that the reconstruction of houses damaged in last year's earthquake will be completed by 1 October.

Markovic, who is also coordinator of the government for help to the city of Kraljevo, said that the state has led by a responsible social policy, bearing in mind the fact that 16,000 private buildings and 8,500 flats have been repaired.

The rehabilitation will cover between 32 and 36 buildings, he said and announced a project to rebuilding damaged apartment buildings if the European Investment Bank (EIB) approves a loan for its rebuilding.

The Minister recalled that more than 465 prefabricated houses will be erected.

Mayor of Kraljevo Ljubisa Simovic said that approximately 80,000 residents of Kraljevo received some form of government assistance after the earthquake.

He also expressed appreciation to the contractors, that are mostly construction companies from Kraljevo, for acting responsibly.
