Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Regional Development Verica Kalanovic underlined today in Pirot that the state can keep the people in underdeveloped parts of the country by investing in infrastructure, job creation and providing scholarships for young people.

Kalanovic, who attended the signing of the contract for the purchase of land in the Pirot industrial zone and visited reconstruction works at the central town square financed by funds from the National Investment Plan (NIP), pointed out that RSD 33 million has been invested so far in the infrastructural development of the industrial zone.

She noted that the city square is important for the inhabitants of Pirot, especially for young people, and the idea was to give it a look of the squares in European cities and in developed cities in Serbia.

Earlier today Kalanovic visited D Company in Babusnica, established 20 years ago, specialising in the production of tools for the rubber industry, moulds for agri-programme, mining products, sports gear and similar.

In 1993 the company established cooperation with Pirot-based Tigar, the largest car tyre producer in Serbia.

Kalanovic will also meet with executives of Prvi Maj Pirot clothes manufacturer to discuss production plans for 2012.
