The Chinese New Year 4710, also known as the Year of the Dragon, will arrive on 23rd January 2012, according to the Gregorian calendar. The Dragon is considered the most auspicious sign in the Chinese mythology.
Young conductor Wangjian Ouyang, who at barely 30 years of age has achieved a successful international career, and one of the most appreciated violinists in China, Mengla Huang, who has won many international competitions, including the Premio Paganini, arrived in Serbia on the occasion.
The Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Ouyang and violinist Huang will perform works of the most famous Chinese composers inspired by the country's rich tradition, among which the popular Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto by Chinese composers Gang and Zhanhao.
Within the New Year Cycle, which has been supported by the European Union, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra has celebrated this season the arrival of the Jewish 5772, Islamic 1433, and 2012 according to the Gregorian and Julian calendars. In view of the positive experience and the wide interest from the audience, the orchestra will include this cycle in the regular concert seasons in the future, aiming to introduce various cultures and traditions and to celebrate diversity.
