Zivorad Mrkic, the president of the New Trade Union of Health Workers, told the gathered people that the economic and social situation in Serbia is difficult, adding that it tends to get even more hard.
Zlatko Bekic, the vice-president of the United Trade Union Sloga, said that workers in Serbia deserve a better living and working conditions, and that they are "deprived of dignity and the right to work." "There is no industry in Serbia and no working class,“ Brkic said, adding that the problem lies in the fact that "laws in Serbia are adopted in the service of capital, interest groups and individuals," and that it is necessary to "awake" workers' awareness.
Veljko Mijailovic, the president of the Police Trade Union, called for solidarity between trade unions.
After the playing of workers' anthem - The Internationale - at Slavija Square and the laying of wreaths at the monument to Dimitrije Tucovic, the members of the trade unions started their protest walk to Terazije Square.
