According to initial reports, a total of 56 foreign nationals -- all identified as illegal immigrants -- were transferred to the new facility. Moreover, a team of Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention (KEEL.PNO) staff members was dispatched to the site.
The placement of the new detention centre has generated angry reactions by local residents, with another protest rally scheduled for later in the day.
