Members of the gendarmerie engaged in securing the administrative line with Kosovo-Metohija and part of the border with Macedonia prevented 410 illegal migrants from reaching the EU member states across Serbia in the last three years.
Members of the gendarmerie engaged in securing the administrative line with Kosovo-Metohija and part of the border with Macedonia prevented 410 illegal migrants from reaching the EU member states across Serbia in the last three years.
Most illegal migrants are Afghanis, Kurds, Algerians, Moroccans, Tunisians, Somali, Albanians, read the data on the activities of the gendarmerie which were presented to journalists who toured the area on Thursday.
In 2011, the gendarmerie reported 59 cases of illegal crossing, during which 285 people were prevented from entering the territory of central Serbia, while in 2010, they thwarted 21 attempts at crossing the border, that is 76 people.
In 2009, the gendarmerie foiled 16 attempts at illegal crossing, during which they discovered a total of 49 people who were trying to reach central Serbia.
Together with Gendarmerie Commander Police Gen Bratislav Dikic, Police Director Milorad Veljovic paid on Thursday a visit to a part of the unit stationed at the Ground Security Zone, along the administrative line with Kosovo-Metohija.
