In the last four years, the Serbian police have seized over 10 tonnes of different kinds of narcotics, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said Tuesday in Bezdan near the northern Serbian town of Sombor, where he visited the recently discovered home laboratories for the production of marijuana.
After visiting the house where marijuana or skunk was being produced in three rooms under artificial conditions, Dacic told reporters this was one of the biggest seizures of this type of narcotic.
Marijuana was well-prepared and ready for picking, drying and delivery to the market, he said, noting the value of the confiscated drugs is around EUR 1 million.
The minister noted the house owner and his mother were recently arrested and the police were searching for the people who might be behind the operation.
It is estimated that EUR 50,000 was invested in equipment for the business which was expected to turn a "huge profit," said Dacic.
This is an important contribution to Operation Morava, in which the police have arrested, detained in custody or filed charges against more than 11,000 people and seized over a tonne of narcotics over the last three years, Dacic said.
