Serbian Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said Tuesday that police had arrested six persons suspected of involvement in a robbery of a EUR 850,000 money shipment in Belgrade, March 2011, but the money had not been found.

Serbian Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said Tuesday that police had arrested six persons suspected of involvement in a robbery of a EUR 850,000 money shipment in Belgrade, March 2011, but the money had not been found.

Dacic pointed out that the suspects in the so-called “theft of the century” were arrested after several months of investigation, adding that they were preparing for a new robbery.

“According to the Interior Ministry, the group was the most dangerous when it comes to robberies, with Uros Petrovic, the organizer, alone charged with thee robberies, collecting around EUR 1.2 million from them. They planned to carry out their next operation at DIS superstore in Kragujevac (central Serbia), where they expected taking away EUR 300,000,” Dacic said.

Dacic said that it was good that a significant number of arrests for charges of robbery and theft, particularly for stealing bank money in transport, had taken place recently.

Besides Petrovic (30), police arrested Nenad Kurilo (26) and four other persons. The arrests took place on Mt. Zlatibor, western Serbia, the city of Kragujevac in central Serbia and in Novi Sad, Vojvodina, Dacic said.

Wearing masks and bulletproof vests and making threats with automatic weapons, a number of thieves robbed a Securitas armored money transportation vehicle in Ustanicka Street in Belgrade on March 10 last year. They escaped with five bags of money owned by the Univerzal Banka bank.

At the time, the media reported that the robbers' cars were set on flame and that a Securitas' employee sustained minor injuries.
