The preliminary results of the parliamentary elections in Serbia show that the population has voted against economic reforms, economic analyst Aleksandar Stevanovic said on May 7.

The preliminary results of the parliamentary elections in Serbia show that the population has voted against economic reforms, economic analyst Aleksandar Stevanovic said on May 7.

"The citizens of Serbia rewarded the bearers of the most catastrophic economic ideas, they voted for the future government not carrying out any economic reforms, for problems being pushed under the carpet and, essentially, they showed that they are satisfied with the current situation," Stevanovic told BETA.

According to him, the only two parties which really won the elections are the Socialist Party of Serbia and the United Regions of Serbia.

The success of the Socialists, he said, is the number of votes they won, while the success of the United Regions is the fact that they passed the census. He pointed out that the Socialists and the United Regions advocate the non-reforming of the public sector, or of its segments that represent the biggest problem, and for the state's greater control of the economy.

He added that state interventionism is more dangerous for Serbia than large state spending.
