Twenty-three people have died in floods caused by torrential rains over the past week and nine others are missing, local media reported on Tuesday . Thirteen of the victims died on Monday and Tuesday.

The situation is worst in the northeast regions, where rivers are overflowing, flooding houses and farm lands.
The Danube is at critical levels in some areas. In neighbouring Bulgaria, a state of emergency has been declared in towns bordering the river.
