The opinion of the International Court of Justice that the self-declared independence of Kosmet is not in discord with the norms of the international law has no influence on Moscow, which does not recognize the independence of the southern Serbian province, stated Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrei Nesterenko.

He pointed that the position of Moscow remains unchanged. We believe the solution of the Kosmet issue is only possible through continued negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, based on UN Resolution 1244, explained Nesterenko.

He stressed that ICJ had confirmed today the validity of that international legal foundation for the resolving of the status of the Province.

It is an important fact that the court has only taken stance with regards to the declaration of independence of the Kosmet Albanians, while distancing itself from commenting on their right to secede from Serbia, pointed the Russian official.
