Plovdiv: Deputy director of municipal company detained with large amount of illegal cigarettes

Police have raided four addresses and confiscated 37 master boxes of cigarettes or more than 18,000 boxes.

Deputy Director of the Gardens and Parks municipal company, Enyo Petrov, has been detained with large amount of cigarettes without excise stamps late on Tuesday in the frames of a special police operation carried out in the Stolipinovo quarter, inhabited mainly by Roma people, in Bulgaria’s second biggest city of Plovdiv, local police director Commissar Todor Chonov announced for Radio FOCUS – Plovdiv.

Authorities have also detained Petrov’s daughter and one of his subordinates. Enyo Petrov is former municipal councilor.

Police have raided four addresses and confiscated 37 master boxes of cigarettes or more than 18,000 boxes.

The illegal cigarettes were found in warehouses and garages owned by Enyo Petrov, who has been put under surveillance for a couple of months.

The three detainees are now under 24-hour arrest.
