The Law on the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and coordination of the fight against corruption was adopted a year ago, but the top people at these institutions have not yet been appointed.

The inability of the Commission for selection and monitoring of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and coordination of the fight against corruption to hold a session at which it should establish a ranking list of candidates for Director and Deputy Director is a true indicator of real political will in BiH in the fight against corruption, Transparency International in BiH (TI BiH) stated.

The Law on the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and coordination of the fight against corruption was adopted a year ago, but the top people at these institutions have not yet been appointed.

“All deadlines for the formation of this agency have long passed and a special problems represents a fact that the agency still has no secured means for work”, told reporters Executive Director of TIBiH Srdjan Blagovcanin.

He stressed that, because of a failure to form this institution these institutions, the implementation of strategies to combat corruption has not even started yet.

Transparency International Studies indicate that the entire region is progressing in implementing anti-corruption laws and prosecution of corruption cases, but BiH lags behind.

“We expect that the authorities finally engage in resolving the problem. I think we have to do this in a very short period, considering the fact that with the progress in the European integration process the pressure from Brussels will rise”, said Blagovcanin.

The commission for the selection and monitoring of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and coordination of the fight against corruption because of the lack of a quorum did not held its meeting yesterday in which a rank list of candidates for Director and Deputy Director was to be determined.

The commission has previously conducted interviews with 15 candidates who meet the requirements established in an open competition for appointing the director and two deputy directors of the Agency.
