As warned by the High Representative for Foreign Policy in the European Union, Catherine Ashton, the union’s envoy to mediate the crisis in Albania, Miroslav Lajcak, reaches Tirana on Wednesday.
In his second visit within few days, Lajcak will continue work for sitting the parties in the same table and try finding a solution through dialogue, which will help the country come out of the crisis.
Brussels insists that Albania should respect the European norms and democracy, so the country won’t stop in its journey toward the European integration.
“You know that we are following the political situation in Albania with much attention. We asked for a solution in this particular moment after the last events. For this reason, Director for Foreign Affairs in the Balkans, Miroslav Lajcak will visit Tirana again. He will repeat our message on what Albania should do. This should be done, so the country will continue progressing and it will manage to achieve dialogue in order to find a peaceful solution,” said Maja Kacijancic, spokeswoman of Baroness Ashton.
When asked about the parliamentary committee on the investigation of January 21 events, which is interrogating high state representatives and journalists, Kacijancic said that “we are attentively following the situation. Of course we know what Albania should do in order to implement the EU reforms, which bring the country closer to the European community. We also know that there are many issues to be analyzed.”
The European attempts to mediate the political crisis in Albania have intensified after January 21, and they have been welcomed by the Albanian political forces.
