Ministry of Defence: Availability of Greece in the framework of NATO

Greece made available, for NATO and the Alliance’s own planning, the Souda Bay facility and additionally, the Aktion and Andravida Air fields, a Navy Frigate that, for the past days has been in the area between the island Crete and Libya with its helicopter onboard, and an Erieye Early Warning Radar System.
Greece, as the Government has already said, fully respects the Security Council Resolution on Libya and its obligations as a NATO and EU member-state.
At this stage, Greece does not take part in military operations that do not fall under the framework of NATO.
On a bilateral level, Greece responds to requests by friendly and allied countries to provide facilitations of a supportive nature.

Greece is also ready to made available a Search and Rescue helicopter at any time, provided there is a need for it.
