Montenegro tops WTTC report in growth of tourism contribution to GDP

Over the next ten years, Montenegro is expected to experience the world’s fastest growth of total contribution of travel and tourism to GDP at 12.4 per cent a year, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has announced in its latest report.

With an average annual growth of direct contribution of tourism to GDP at 10.9 per cent by 2021, Montenegro also tops the WTTC world ranking list including 181 countries.
In addition, Montenegro also heads the list when it comes to growth of tourism’s direct and total contribution to employment and visitors exports, as well as in terms of forecast investments over the next decade.
Regarding the contribution of tourist visits, the real growth of 9.4 per cent a year in the next decade puts Montenegro in the second place globally.
This year, 1.12 million of foreign tourists are expected to visit Montenegro, the report says, which will generate EUR 633.8 million.
When it comes to employment, travel and tourism industry will directly contribute to creating 25000 new jobs over the next ten years, which makes an increase of 13000, the WTTC predicts.
“The total contribution to employment will result in the creation of 62000 jobs by 2021, which represents 33.2 per cent of total employment in Montenegro or 9.4 per cent growth over the next ten years”, the report concludes
