The High Representative and EU Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Valentin Inzko, will be in New York and Washington from 9 to 11 May to deliver his biannual report to the United Nations and to meet with high-ranking UN and US government officials, OHR announced.
In his discussions and speeches, HR/EUSR Inzko will underline that the country is facing one of the worst political crises since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement (DPA) in 1995.
Above all the RS Referendum on the State Judiciary is a blatant attack on the DPA and the achievements made since its signing. Due to gridlock, intransigence and narrow political interest, the country still has no central government seven months after the elections.
This has detrimental consequences for citizens’ day-to-day lives, blocks BiH’s progress on the path to the European Union and NATO, prevents economic recovery and significantly delays consideration of the closure of the Office of the High Representative.
On Wednesday in Washington the High Representative and EU Special Representative will meet US Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Countryman.
