Bulgarian Government allocates 240 000 leva for Libya evacuation flights

Bulgaria's Cabinet has allocated on May 11 a further 240 000 leva, to be added to the Foreign Ministry budget, to cover the expenses incurred by emergency flights that evacuated civilians from the conflict in Libya.

Bulgaria's Cabinet has allocated on May 11 a further 240 000 leva, to be added to the Foreign Ministry budget, to cover the expenses incurred by emergency flights that evacuated civilians from the conflict in Libya.

The funds would half of the thes costs inccured by the flights sent to evacuate people from the city of Jarbah in Tunisia and Khartoum in Sudan, on April 20-21 2011.

The Government endorsed the humanitarian mission as part of the European Union aid campaign to help evacuation efforts in the war-torn state

The funds will come from the money set aside in the Budget for official development assistance. The rest of the funding will be provided by the European Commission.

Assistance from Bulgaria for the evacuation of refugees from the Libyan-Tunisian border is a contribution to common efforts of countries of the European Union to alleviate the situation of people in the area and to prevent a humanitarian disaster.

According to European humanitarian aid commissioner Kristalina Georgieva, 850 million euro has been allocated from the European Union for humanitarian aid and disaster response for Libya.
