Lazar Elenovski has resigned as Social Democratic Union (SDU) leader after party's crushing defeat in June 5 snap polls.
By tendering his resignation, Elenovski claims the responsibility for party's poor showing in the general elections, and on the basis on his own principles, he steps down as party leader.
The party will undergo a comprehensive reform in the coming months. A new leader will be named in September.
Although SDU's candidates contested the June 5 elections in all six constituencies, the party failed to secure a seat in the Macedonian parliament.
