Exhibition “Sarajevo City Hall Revisited” was opened last night in central hall of City Hall. The aim of the exhibition is creating tourist attraction which will contribute restoration of this significant building.
Only those who had invitations could get in to this exhibition, and entrance will be charged (5 KM) starting Friday and the funds will go to Fund for restoration of City Hall.
Before the opening ceremony the documentary by Valerijan Zuja was shown about the City Hall, its history and significance.
Exhibition was opened by Mayor of Sarajevo Alija Behmen and the US Ambassador to BiH Patrick S. Moon who reflected on historical and cultural significance of this building.
City Hall is one of the most significant historical and architectural monuments of Sarajevo. During the siege of Sarajevo (1992 - 1995), it was burnt down and became a metaphor for destruction of cultural heritage.
At the exhibition which will be open for public for the next six months, there will be extensive material about history of the building, original architectural drafts, photographs from the first opening of the City Hall in 1896 and notes on purpose and role of this facility in different periods.
Funds raised during the exhibition will be used for restoration and promotion of the project of City Hall whereas the contents will become permanent exhibition display of the City Hall after its reopening.
