Combating corruption in high places has not yet produced the desirable results, and better results are needed in cracking down on organized crime.

Combating corruption in high places has not yet produced the desirable results, and better results are needed in cracking down on organized crime.

This is said in the European Commission report on Justice and Home Affairs in Bulgaria expected to have its official presentation on Wednesday.

Quite remarkably, the text makes no mention of Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area, and the latter will be very much up to this report. Brussels however hails progress, the more professional work of judges and combating conflicts of interest.

The EC also admits that the Bulgarian government has kept its will for further reform, but believes that the integrity of judges remains an area that gives rise to serious worries, the report also says.
