Several trucks loaded with goods are still blocked at the Merdare administrative border crossing, and the customs authorities are not allowing them to enter Kosovo-Metohija, due to the decision of the Kosovo government to impose an embargo on goods from central Serbia.

Several trucks are blocked in the zone between two checkpoints, and are waiting for a permit to enter Kosovo, or an order to go back.

The goods in the trucks were purchased by companies from the province which have been cooperating with producers from central Serbia for years.

The customs offices in the province started carrying out the order of the Kosovo government issued on Wednesday at 8 pm. Since that moment, none of the trucks carrying goods were allowed to enter Kosovo at the Merdare administrative border crossing.

Economists in Pristina welcome the Kosovo government's decision to introduce reciprocity as regard the trade with Serbia, since the Belgrade authorities have for years refused to import the goods coming from Kosovo which are labeled by the seal of the Republic of Kosovo.

Experts believe that other countries in the region could benefit from the embargo, and that mutual blockade might pave the way for increased trade between Kosovo and Macedonia.
