European Union sources said on July 21 in reaction to the Kosovo Government decision to impose an embargo on goods imports from Serbia that "unilateral action and measures do not solve problems."

European Union sources said on July 21 in reaction to the Kosovo Government decision to impose an embargo on goods imports from Serbia that "unilateral action and measures do not solve problems."

Officials close to EU Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton told BETA that a chance should be given to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue in September, or sooner, and not imposing an embargo.

The EU is "investigating the Kosovo Government decision," added the sources.

"But, the EU continues to believe that unilateral actions/measures do not solve problems," EU officials emphasized. They declared that "it would be better to give the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue a chance in early September, or sooner, before implementing a ban."

The European diplomatic sources told BETA that the EU believes Pristina's move could only serve to hinder the finding of possible solutions for an agreement between the Kosovo and Serbian sides on solving even more issues "important for the daily lives of the population."
