Turk, who signed the decree one minute after midnight, decided to dissolve the parliament after Prime Minister Borut Pahor's government faced the no-confidence motion on September 20, and since there was no proposal for the appointment of a new prime minister.
Turk waited 30 days to pass, which is the legal deadline to propose the appointment of a new prime minister. Since this was not done, he signed the decree to dissolve the parliament.
STA states that this will be the country's first snap election.
