The first round of the presidential and local elections in Bulgaria, which took place simultaneously for the first time since the democratic changes in 1989, has ended.

According to the first forecasts the presidential candidate of the ruling GERB party, Rosen Plevneliev, has won the first round with 40% of the votes. Second with about 30% of the votes comes the candidate of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Ivailo Kalfin.About 42% of the voters have used their right.

Due to the fact that none of the candidates managed to get more than 50% of the votes and as less than 50% of the voters took part in the elections, there will be a second presidential election round on October 30.

The current mayor of Sofia and GERB candidate for another term in office Yordanka Fandakova has won the local elections with about 51% of the votes
