One-quarter of Bulgarians live below poverty line

The poverty line based on a basket of 77 basic goods and services needed for physical survival has reached EUR 100 per household member implying a growth of 5.5 percent year-on-year.

Close to one-quarter of people in Bulgaria live below the poverty line, a survey of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria suggests.

In estimates of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Studies the monthly upkeep of a four-member family grew by EUR 50 last year.At the end of 2011 the upkeep of a household member stood at EUR 260.

The poverty line based on a basket of 77 basic goods and services needed for physical survival has reached EUR 100 per household member implying a growth of 5.5 percent year-on-year.
