Serbia and Hungary have excellent relations, and frequent meetings on the state top level prove that the two countries maintain a high level of cooperation, Serbian and Hungarian Presidents Boris Tadic and Laszlo Solyom concluded in Novi Sad on March 14.
After meeting with Solyom in Novi Sad, Tadic told the press that Serbia's unconditional consent that Solyom may attend the central celebration of the anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution in 1848 in Subotica is another evidence of good cooperation.
"Today we agreed that I should come to Hungary in 2011 to the celebration of St Sava's day, so that we can once again show the level of cooperation and international relations of the two countries, which can serve as an example to others," Tadic said.
He assessed that such cooperation in no way questions the integrity of Serbia or Hungary, but rather, implies that Hungary is determined to support Serbia's Eurointegration process, which Serbia is very grateful for.
"We also discussed the economic cooperation in the conditions of the most severe economic crisis, and concluded that both countries are relatively successful in the struggle against the crisis," Tadic said, adding that even though the two countries' budgets are on a controlled deficit level, the times that are coming are encouraging.
During the meeting, they also touched on the topic of joint work on the draft Danube Strategy, Hungary's takeover of the EU presidency, the making of a new edition of a Serbian-Hungarian dictionary, as well as the cooperation between the national academies of sciences on determining the facts that happened during and after World War II.
Solyom said that frequent meetings with his Serbian counterpart show the high level of interstate relations between Serbia and Hungary, and assessed that good bilateral relations also provide good living conditions for the Hungarian minority in Serbia and vice versa.
"During the visit to Serbia, I have seen almost all the parts of Vojvodina where Hungarian community members live. This visit was positive and good, as I have received confirmation that the Hungarian community contributes to Serbia's Eurointegration," Solyom stated.
Solyom's visit to Vojvodina lasted for three days.
